Community Outreach
Our congregation reaches out to the wider community in many ways.
Our Global Family
The church's Social Outreach Committee encourages us to think globally by:
- Collecting money in our "Change for a Change" jar. Small amounts add up to big contributions to worthy causes suggested by members—for example, Haiti reforestation.
- Raising awareness of social justice, environmental, and human rights issues. The committee has sponsored guest speakers and letter-writing campaigns on issues such as the genocide in Darfur.
We encourage the children in our congregation to do their part as well. Children's projects have included Treat or Treat for UNICEF, making and selling items for hurricane relief, and collecting toys and school supplies for African children.
Our Local Community
Our congregation also makes a difference right here in the Peoria area.
- We collect items for local food pantries.
- We are active in Peoria County's Adopt-a-Highway program.
- Our church is a member of the Central Illinois Organizing Project (CIOP), an ecumenical organization that works for justice in local communities.
- Our Covenant Circles plan and carry out community service projects.
- Our church budget includes donations to local nonprofit organizations such as Common Place and the Center for Prevention of Abuse.
- Many individuals in our congregation are active in social service, social justice, and environmental causes in our community. They share their time and talent professionally or as volunteers. Our church serves as a support system for these individuals.
